Queen of Cups

The Queen of Cups sits on her throne facing to the left. As the guardian of emotional memories, she keeps the lid of her cup tightly closed. In her other hand, a serpentine sword rests on her shoulder. This unmasked threat is her only warning... Yet she is a model of empathy and understanding. Introverted but intense, the Queen of Cups listens to her own feelings and those of others. Her secret power is her ability to perceive the subtlest emotions. In matters of love, she possesses the wisdom and vulnerability of seasoned hearts... because they intimately know the pain. Patient and composed, she waits for her soulmate to reveal their love. It is only under this exclusive condition that she will open her cup to pour out its fluids endlessly. In her private garden, this discerning gardener cultivates roses. Red like the blood that nourishes her overflowing heart, delicately beaded with dew, they offer themselves candidly. However, covered in thorns, beware of those who brush against them... as they would inevitably get pricked. But to the hand that touches her with kindness, she bestows a grace: emotional intelligence. Based on "Queen Elizabeth I," by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger (1561 - 1636)

The Queen of Cups embodies compassion, intuition, and deep emotional connection. In her positive aspect, she symbolizes a great capacity for love and support towards others. An excellent emotional advisor, the Queen of Cups is always ready to offer a compassionate shoulder. This embodiment of the balance between intellect and emotions reminds us that true wisdom lies in the intelligence of feelings. On the darker side, the Queen of Cups can become overwhelmed by the emotions of others. Her hypersensitivity makes her vulnerable to emotional manipulation to the point of losing her own emotional identity. At the other end of the spectrum, she might retreat into the dungeon of her emotional wounds and disconnect from her feelings. Medusa-like and vindictive, she becomes more cruel and uncompromising when she suspects abuse. In the context of a reading, the Queen of Cups can represent a person who embodies these qualities of empathy and understanding. It may also indicate a need to cultivate these attributes within ourselves, by becoming more receptive to our emotions and those of others. In all circumstances, this card advises us to maintain a balance between compassion and the preservation of our emotional well-being.
