Knight of Swords

The Knight of Swords exhibits the clarity of his faith. His sword, red with incarnate soul, acts as a telluric antenna: it channels cosmic energies to infuse his actions. The tension of his steed extends the reach of his thought. Yet, he has transcended the very concept of intellect, which holds meaning for him only if it serves the impulses of the heart. The spirit of salt and sulfur is inherent to water. The Knight of Swords' hat is a cup. Just below the blue-sky receptacle, symbolizing the fully active crown chakra, a golden band of ten deniers manifests the awakening of his pineal gland. The clarity of his psyche has shed any schizoid interference: on his shoulders, Jean-Geneus exults... Jean-qui-pleure is no more. Embarking on the reconquest of Italy, Napoleon is invested with a near-divine mission... perhaps a transcendence. He will lead France to its zenith until the disintegration of the First Empire. His steed subtly allegorizes Pentecost and the effusion of the Holy Spirit. Like Jupiter's thunderbolt, each strike of his hooves inseminates the earth with cosmic power. According to "Napoleon Crossing the Grand-Saint-Bernard," Jacques-Louis David (1748 - 1825)

The Knight of Swords embodies intellectual passion and the enlightened action of the awakened mind. As a scourge of obscurantism and intellectual vanities, the Knight of Swords gallops vigorously in pursuit of noble ideals. This lightning-fast and wise spirit encourages us to act with the spiritual force of the evangelist. A lover of universal truth, the Knight of Swords urges us to openly express our convictions. In its positive form, the Knight of Swords is the bridge between the head and the heart. His completely liberated mind serves the world. His spirit, uninterested in the affections of the ego, is invested with a radical and revolutionary thought: "In the beginning was the word... and in the end, there is only Love." This accomplished missionary of intelligence symbolizes the will to transcend any parasitic concept and any fear... to learn, simply, to love. In its negative dimension, the Knight of Swords can be impulsive and insensitive in expressing his ideas, no matter how noble they may be. When his illumination borders on obsession or madness, his words become arrows that can irreparably pierce the hearts of those to whom he addresses them. Furthermore, his quest for truth can turn into a bloody crusade or a ruthless inquisition. In the context of a reading, the Knight of Swords may herald the imminent arrival of a new idea, project, or opportunity in the realms of communication and knowledge. It is a call to pursue our intellectual aspirations while remaining aware of the consequences of our words and ideas. He reminds us of the importance of channeling our thoughts to maintain our mental balance and the quality of our relationships.
