Death

The Card Without a Name jealously guards its anonymity. Names are useful, practical, or merely affectionate reference points. However, once we assign them, they bind us. To name is to objectify... From birth, the name given to us is both an attempt at identification and a temptation of appropriation: “I name you, therefore you belong to me.” From this perspective, the Card Without a Name opts for subjectivity. The moment it renounces the object of its identification, it becomes a "subject" and author of its own destiny. Now, its quest can focus on conscious detachment from the symbols of its alienation... and it can freely assume responsibility for its choices of attachments. Thus, "13" is no longer a harbinger of doom; it rather signifies: “He who dies to the Self is reborn in the Self.” Based on "Saturn," Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640)

In a reading, the Card Without a Name generally inspires fear and dread. Its mention makes one shiver, its sight paralyzes, and its number unleashes all superstitions. Yet, its sole intention is to irreversibly harvest what obstructs our fulfillment... and to cut through our wounds to the quick. The Hanged Man invited us to reconsider our paradigms in the light of an awakened consciousness. The Card Without a Name no longer gives us much choice... Its appearance signifies the necessary mourning of our limiting beliefs. And once we accept its toll, its scorched earth already promises a return of abundance. For as vibrant as the crimson rags of its flesh, it simply calls us to live! Beyond the ominous omens this card sometimes contains, the Card Without a Name primarily urges us to permanently abandon everything that keeps us in a state of immobility or prostration. And it's better to follow its advice to the letter... than to wait for it to kick us in the rear. Its motto: "Live and let die."
