The Sun

The Sun, numbered 19, symbolizes the union of opposites in a perfect cycle: the 1 initiates and the 9 completes. While the Moon reflects its surface's glow, whether full or partial, it primarily interacts with the Sun's rays. Together, they form this mythical and archetypal couple of which we are symbolic children. In popular culture, the mother "brings into the world," while the father "places into the world." As the Moon bathes the night in maternal reverberations, the Sun illuminates the day with its fiery rays. Benevolent and paternal, our star guides its children towards autonomy. However, this autonomy can only be achieved by first severing all attachments. More than any other, the solar star delves into the heart of humanity's foundational myth. Originally, the cosmic egg nurtures the sacred twins, immersed in the harmony of primordial unity. Yet, a cosmic incident abruptly causes its rupture. From this Big Bang, the universe emerges... and with it, the primal wound born of the twins' separation. Since then, they have both wandered in the hope of reuniting... to finally merge. When the Sun appears in a reading, it’s already a sign of success. The Sun card has an appointment with the Moon, and its lady is so punctual that she precedes it at her leisure. In tarot, the masculine follows the feminine, respecting universal laws. Just as the High Priestess precedes the Pope or the Empress precedes the Emperor, the receptivity of the feminine awakens the action of the masculine, allowing them to be liberated. For their detachment is the essential prerequisite for their union. The Sun is an exceptionally beneficial card, perhaps the most positive in the tarot. Its appearance gladly heralds happiness and success. In its graphical composition, it is the exalted synthesis of The Lovers and The Devil. Doubt has given way to clarity, and love has swept away subjugation. The Sun therefore typically promises a favorable and joyful outcome... regardless of the question. Its guarantee: "When I embrace my indivisible duality (my individuality), union becomes my reality."
